Today is our last full day in Thailand. We’re hanging out at the guest house called The Secret Garden where we called home during our stay in Chiang Mai. Its run by a German expat named Peter, and his Thai wife, Pai. They are extremely kind hosts and have created a paradise outside a busy city in Thailand. The architecture is a combination of Mexican and Thai. It’s my best hotel experience so far in Southeast Asia and I highly recommend it. I’ve stayed at 5 star remote tropical resorts before that cost $300 American a night and it doesn’t compare to this place at an average of $30 USD a night.
My favorite part of the place is the huge outdoor Mexican style kitchen they have. They make dinner every night and the guests can join Pai in the kitchen for an informal crash course in Thai cooking. Peter also adds in his epicure two cents by making a variety of Mexican and German foods and desserts. The warmth of the hosts, the wonderful fresh dinners, and the serentity of the garden was the ideal way to finish our vacation relaxingly.
Our flight leaves Chiang Mai at 5:00 PM and we arrive in Bangkok an hour later. Since our flight back to NYC doesn’t depart til 6 the following morning, we were planning on just staying out and partying as late as we can in Bangkok and then taking a taxi to the airport really early.
This was my third time in Asia and it reconfirms that Thailand is my favorite place in the world. The food is amazing; People are so kind and friendly; Weather and much of the geography are stunning. I’m sad to go as I know that I won’t be returning for a while. The world’s too large and there’s too much other stuff to see…
I’m looking forward to being back in New York City though which will always be home and a convenient cultural portal to the rest of the world.
